The Happy Fits bring infectious joy, energy to crowd at The Recher

With only three more shows to go in their Lovesick Tour, The Happy Fits put their everything into a stellar performance May 1 at The Recher in Towson, MD. Jumping on stage to a cheering crowd and a cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli playing on the speakers, the band was greeted by a large cheering crowd eager for the concert to begin.

Comprised of lead vocalist and cellist Calvin Langman, drummer and vocalist Luke Davis, and guitarists and vocalists Nico Rose and Raina Mullen, The Happy Fits jumped right into “Cruel Power,” a high-energy number from their “Lovesick” album that gave the audience no choice but to start dancing. The next few songs kept the energy going, with the crowd jumping up and down while singing along.

Despite “Lovesick” being The Happy Fits’ first album and tour after the addition of Rose and Mullen to the band in 2024, it’s hard to believe the quartet hasn’t worked together for longer. Their smooth performance demonstrated a natural chemistry, with each member feeding off both each other’s and the crowd’s energy.

After a few more songs, The Happy Fits launched into “Dirty Imbecile,” one of their original songs released back in 2016. Its jaunty, staccato melody had long-time fans feeling nostalgic, singing along and tapping their feet as Langman walked playfully back and forth across the stage with his cello.

From loud, upbeat numbers that make you want to shake your head and get on your feet to more intimate, slower melodies recounting the details of heartache, The Happy Fits managed to find and share joy in the collective experience of being lovesick.
