The Spill Canvas delights fans at the City Winery

The Spill Canvas brought their Bottle of Red Tour (version 3!) to the City Winery in Pittsburgh on Monday, November 18. Their limited tour, which included City Winery locations across the northeast, featured new takes on old favorites and a few new songs. 

Fans packed the City Winery, enjoying the venue before the show. With no supporting acts, The Spill Canvas started the show without fanfare. Unlike their usual rock shows, this set featured the addition of violin, keyboard, trumpet, and even accordion accompaniment on most of the songs. These new arrangements had an energy all their own, a more low-key acoustic style but with singer Nick Thomas’ solid and emotional vocals. Mid-show, Thomas took the opportunity to speak about his struggles with mental health and sobriety before performing a solo version of “Self-Conclusion.” 

Pittsburgh loves The Spill Canvas. A dedicated fan base packs the house regardless of the venue, singing along to old and new songs. The City Winery crowd enthusiastically responded to the stripped-down show throughout the evening, embracing the reimagined versions of old favorites. The band thanked the crowd for their 20-plus years of support through trials and triumphs, emphasizing that these songs are not just the bands but the shared experiences of everyone who hears and sings along. 

The tour continues for just one more weekend, but The Spill Canvas has scheduled several one-off shows through the end of the year.
