How did the band come to be?
The band started with three best friends all they way back from 1st grade.  United by their passion for music they formed The Unsung back in 2015! Unfortunately life pulled each of them in different directions.  But one of us remained and found the rest of our current line up to form The Unsung of today!

Do you have any releases coming up in the new year?
We have a brand new single, “Awake” coming out in TWO WEEKS.  It will be available on all platforms March 31st 2020! We consider this song to be our greatest achievement and could not be happier with it!  You can pre-save the song at this link: https://ffm.to/zlq3qox

What is something you want listeners to take away from your music?
We want any listener to connect with our music on a level that is strictly and only for them!  Our music is our art and our life experience, and if anyone is able to connect with our art in any way, we are more than happy!  Listening to music is for the listening and we want them to be free to interpret our music in a way that helps them with whatever they are facing!

With everything that is going on in our world what is one cause or organization that you are passionate about?
We are passionate about love.  Love each other and love yourself.  The power of love is the biggest strength and weakness of all humans.

What is your writing process like?
Our writing process usually starts with the musicality.  We collaborate on our instruments, and write what we feel inside to get our emotions out through our own personal instruments.  Once we have a solid idea and direction, we bring in our singer to create a story on top of it that vibes cohesively with the music.

To follow up with the last question, what inspires your sound?
Life experiences and new emotions inspire our sound.  We are inspired by what we’ve been through and what we hope to go through in the future.

Any tours coming up soon?
We we planning to tour this summer, but as of right now, with all that’s going on in the world, we are unable to book anything at the moment along with almost all touring acts.  So we don’t have much information on that for now.

Anything you would like to tell our readers?

‘Awake’ is a new milestone for us as a band, using our various inspirations to create a song that is big, bright and beautiful.

We wrote it with no end goal in mind, but the initial idea behind the song carried a mood that hooked all of us and we couldn’t help but build on that vibe until the final arrangement was settled. Tyler had lyrics for the song that told a great story from a unique perspective, and doubled down with vocal melodies that made the song genuinely addicting to the ear.

The message in the song speaks to the evolving theme of hope that we write about. In ‘Awake’, we take the theme of hope and embody it in the form of a crush. That crush does not know the speaker in any way, but the crush’s presence has a profound impact on the speaker’s life, filling the moment with new life and euphoria. Compared to our earlier songs where hope has been distant and obscure, we as the speaker are now in the presence of hope and we can see that it’s there, but are not yet capable of grasping it.

This song has a few instrumental highlights in it. We had written one of our most inspired and spunky guitar solos, which borrowed sounds and techniques from modern guitar greats such as Polyphia, Owane, and Mateus Asato. That solo was immediately followed by a bridge section, in which our drummer was able to actualize a technical linear drumming part, taking a page from Matt Halpern’s book. All the while, the bass guitar lays the framework for all the big impacts in the song, and shreds as an equal to guitar in our most technical riffs. In our bassist’s words, it’s his most challenging song in the entire catalog. This is one of our most ambitious pieces of art thus far, and sets a new standard for all of the music that we create together going forward.
