How did the band come to be?
Hi there, my name is DiipSilence, I'm a solo electronic artist-producer based in LA. At the very beginning of my graduate school, I'm a math major, where music is always my biggest hobby. I've never thought of working in the music industry. But during summer vacation I went to New York Dubspot school to learn DJ, electronic music productions with Ableton, this opened my mind to I jumped to the music industry. After graduation, I moved to LA to continue to learn Audio Engineering and started my career as a mixing engineer, film post sound designer, and sound editor. Working in the film industry also provides me skills in using foleys and sound effects to write music. Now I'm writing my own music and collaborating with different musicians as an independent artist-producer.
Do you have any releases coming up in the new year?
Yes my new album will be released at the end of May :) It's a sequence release, two singles following up with a full-length album release. The new album will be titled "Wave-particle Dualism'', the theme will be around us human beings, as a creature made of light, shall have the same wave-particle dualism just as light beams. My most recent album is a six-song EP called "Reticent Path,'' it's a collection of piano pieces that I've composed during the past two years, streaming link is as follows:
What is something you want listeners to take away from your music?
I believe in "Everything can be music," most of my music is created from field recordings, such as a keychain movement that can be time stretched and made a synth pad from it. While learning math, I realized that every aspect of our life could connect with some math models, obviously like finance, business models, etc. What's blowing my mind is nature, there are fractals almost in every plant, even the 3D mapping is using fractals to model the natural visuals. So I think why not music? Everything can be linked to music as well!
With everything that is going on in our world, what is one cause or organization that you are passionate about?
The meaning of meaningless, or unconsciousness. Often we learn stuff, and we made stuff from our knowledge. Sure, knowledge and skill are fundamental, but for me, usually, the unconscious world drives me to write. These almost "automatic" actions, or I could say "instinctive" acts of human emotion, always bring up my curiosity, and I'm passionate about using sound design as a tool to create another world of my duality reality.
What is your writing process like?
Usually I'll go out for a field trip, record some sounds, I don't think too much during the recording, but when I get back home, I'll import the sounds in my DAW and start sound designing. I'm trying to make every audio sound unrecognizable and exploring composing from there. Lots of my writings will bring me the memory of the location that I've been, the scenery, and the vibe of the place. I want my music to describe my feelings and let people see what I can see while writing a piece of music.
To follow up with the last question, what inspires your sound?
I think the world of "sound" inspires me a lot, not only the sound of nature but also the sounds in our city, the sounds of our life. I also get inspired by listening to music; first of all, I need to be a listener to become a musician. Trip-hop bands like Massive Attack, CocoRosie inspire me a lot in my sound.
Any tours coming up soon?
Since we are all under this social distance circumstance, I'll have music live streaming instead of concerts, and push more music video out for the new release, stay tuned in my Youtube Channel here: https://smarturl.it/diipsilence_youtube
