Dan Kert and Paul Love comprise the London based alternative rock duo, Plastic Barricades. Kert plays the mastermind role on guitar, keyboards, and vocals, alongside Love, who takes charge of slaying on the drum kit and production. The group sets themselves apart with vivid, introspective lyrics that contemplate life, raise pondering questions, and search for viable answers. This strategy persists with the release of their new track “Tunnel”, which is the third single from their upcoming LP “Self-Theories.”
The query presented this time: “How would your anxieties look under a microscope?”

“Driving through a tunnel - and the rain just stops.
You’re on your own for now, you really miss that sound. /
Scared of being left alone with your thoughts and feelings you’ve ignored,
Only static on the radio. /
Mixed with emptiness from long ago.”

“When all the noises fade and you can hear your heart, /
 It’s beating fast.
Transcending all that happened in your past. /
Embrace the darkness if you want to win this fight.
Please carry on, keep searching for the light.”

The song is straightforward in its message. Life often feels like a road, filled with all of its twists, turns, and tunnels that leave one frozen with fear, uncertainty, and claustrophobia. It’s pitch dark and your vision is compromised, as you are traveling with no directions or map in your possession. And there’s no turning back. The only possible route you can take is to proceed in moving forward. “Tunnel” provides a hopeful reminder that this path is only temporary and no tunnel lasts forever. Do not give up. You made it through the previous tunnels and you will find the light again as you navigate your way and finally escape this one.

“Reverberating sounds. /
Maybe you have lost the way,
Took a wrong turn somewhere one fine day. /
Now you’re trapped inside this endless game,
Of hope and fear and desperation.”

The concept for the corresponding DIY music video was brought to life by art director Elina Pasok and Dan Kert. Sonically, the band attempts to reinvent themselves and consistently experiment with new styles and sounds. Their wide range of inspirations and musical influences include Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Muse, Death Cab for Cutie, Placebo, Snow Patrol, The Shins, and Nirvana.

Instrumentals paint a vivid picture with sparkling bass, resounding guitar work, and enigmatic vocals. This composition speaks with beautiful melody, melancholy, and honesty. Plastic Barricades are a breath of fresh air, providing an urgent sense of nostalgia and comfort. Keep an eye out for this band as their future deems colorfully bright.

“And it starts becoming brighter, /
You feel you’re close, but you’re still frightened.
Just one more bend before this tunnel ends.”

“When all the noises fade and you can hear your heart, /
It’s beating fast.
Transcending all that happened in your past. /
Embrace the darkness if you want to win this fight.
Please carry on, emerge into the light!”
