Candice Lee is a down to earth, authentic and inspiring powerhouse with a wholesome spirit. Her music displays a pop/rock edge with a hint of EDM. She is a multi-talented singer-songwriter, guitarist, harpist, pianist, bassist, and ukulele player. At the end of January, she has released her new single ‘How We Used To Be’
The melody of the song feels calm all throughout, it has a soothing sound when you look at the music without the vocals. It sounds like something you’d sway to while closing your eyes. The combination of the guitar and harp gives it the calming feeling, carrying this out even when the song starts to get rougher to get the message across. Even without the lyrics the general message of the song is clear. The calmness is bittersweet when you start to look at the lyrics. Candice Lee has explained how the song shifts from anxious feelings to images of hope to remind us that, while we face common struggles, challenges and emotions, we will come to a brighter time. She’s said it was inspired by the pandemic, all the longing feelings of what was. “The world took a pause And has shown all its flaws Chapter in history” However, sometimes people are in need of stability in different situations and this song will cover all of it. While it’s been inspired by the pandemic, it isn’t limited to it. Sometimes it’s about needing someone who is no longer in your life or the need for a new person or situation to help you. ‘How We Used To Be’ will give you that exact feeling. With the amazing and powerful vocals that Candice Lee provides, this can become the anthem you might need in times like these. If you’d ask me, I’d say it’s an amazing song to loudly sing along to whenever you feel like it. “All I'm saying, is I'm praying, that I'll wake up from this nightmare Can't escape this, I'm so anxious, mentally unprepared Pull me closer, when it's over, how I'm craving to feel you on my skin Take me back to how we used to live” Listen to ‘How We Used To’ here: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/4k7CN7AnbV199daiFAaq14 Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/how-we-used-to-single/1548239286 Connect with Candice Lee on her socials: Twitter: https://twitter.com/candiceleemusic Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/candiceleemusic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/candiceleemusic/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6ePCmYGe9fI1F3pngxoabA Website: https://www.candiceleemusic.com Review by: Anissa Steijns
