Things aren’t always what they seem. That’s what vocalist Dan Lambton stresses in Real Friends’ new song ‘From the Outside’. Echoing sentiments from previous Real Friends music, ‘From the Outside’ explores the disconnect between perception and reality. Lambton has always been vocal about his battles with mental health, and this song is no exception. Real Friends took the ‘sad songs that sound happy’ approach, and it payed off. It definitely stays true to their classic sound, but it feels different. It’ll be interesting to see what they do next. The band released a music video along with the song. The video’s vibrant colors mixed with a fake happy main character parallels the song’s central theme. It did a great job illustrating how the song made me feel. This is exactly what the world needs from Real Friends right now. There are pieces of the song that everyone can relate to. ‘From the Outside’ tells an all too familiar tale of persistent struggling. Be sure to give it a listen.
