Friday, May 13th, 2022, is one for the books with nothing wicked about it. The Day After celebrated 10 years of their record “The Year”. With special guests Bad Planning, Action/Adventure, Cold Streets, and the beloved Crunkasaurus Rex. Playing at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, the entire show was nothing but nostalgic. Even bringing on stage, Ty Bush who featured on the original title track. To bring it all into perspective, think of one night getting together with a bunch of old friends to say goodbye in the most epic way, to a chapter that meant so much to you. Think of a night full of laughs, tears, sweat, and a whole lot of rocking out. On the way home I realized, that one day I might never get to see any of those people ever again. I might never be in that same venue with all of the same people ever again. As sorrowful as that may sound, it made me feel grateful to be alive. It made me feel so fortunate to have witnessed such a great night with such talented people. It made my heart warm knowing I made it out of some of my own worst years and got to stand in that room and watch pure magic on that stage. It makes me want to keep going. If there are more nights like that to come, that is a reason to not give up on anything I have dreamed and hoped for in my own life.

Think of the purest moment that truly changed the course of your life - “The Year,” was just that for this band. The entire reason they put on this show was to close a chapter that started it all for them in the best way they know how to, so they can start writing new ones. This band deserves a new chapter. A chapter that is full of bigger and better moments. A chapter full of finding an even better way to talk about the daily struggles of finding yourself or even losing yourself. I do not believe this show was a true goodbye because these songs will live on forever with the people they speak to most, including the band that wrote them. I do however believe, that the chapter to come will be one of the biggest for them if they choose it to be. I said it before and I will say it over again, The Day After is what local music is about. They are a pure example of what the Indianapolis music scene and all of the bands in it need to truly take note of. Creating a community where everyone is loved and safe, doing what you love, and never giving up on yourself are truly the only things that matter. It isn't touring. It isn't making all the money in the world. If those are what you want you will get it. I will just let you know right now, that there is money, fame, and a lot of really extravagant things this particular dream can give you but you only find success when you are doing it because you genuinely love it. The Day after proved that this past Friday. The Day After proves this time and time again and that is why I feel their music will always ring true to me. Also why every chance I have, I will buy a ticket to witness the magic they so effortlessly bring to a room.
