 San Diego band Vokab Kompany is composed of two skilled emcees, Rob Hurt and Burkey. The duo recently released a genre defying album “Small Viktories” that comprises nine tracks and showcases a diverse collection of creative collaborations. This LP is an audio journal that sonically infuses a high-power blend of hip-hop, funk, soul, and EDM. The album is filled with positive vibes, psychedelic basslines, and funky grooves; every composition is intricately connected and features hip-hop vocals and electronic soundscapes. Standout tracks include the funk anthem “Fabtastik” (including groovy sax riffs and an artistic collab with producer Megan Hamilton), and “Classic” love song that unfolds the start of a new romance. “Politricks” presents commentary on current political issues while simultaneously promoting an inspirational message of hope for change and unity. “Stories Up” ties everything together and closes the LP on a strong emotional note with an instrumental version of “30 Stories Up.”
