SET IT OFF - DEMANDS LISTENERS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR FEARS IN SINGLE “WHO’S IN CONTROL”
Set It Off reveals “Who’s In Control,” available worldwide via Fearless Records. “Who’s In Control” taps into a troubling experience that all creative minds encounter: being paralyzed by an influx of fear and outside pressures. In Set It Off’s case, the ever-evolving Alternative group sings of questioning who is actually controlling their identities in the midst of expectations for artists to become musical machines. “Who’s In Control” is their third single from their upcoming much anticipated album Elsewhere, available everywhere on Friday, March 11th.
Set It Off has been exploring the theme of neon macabre in their latest releases, and “Who’s In Control” is no exception; the single screams the most like a horror movie— almost as though the listener is being chased through a house of mirrors. An unsettling shrill shocks listeners in the opening seconds, leaving them on edge as they’re hit with a suspenseful Pop-Punk sound and lyrics of being poisoned by negativity. A feeling that the band knows all too well, singer/lyricist Cody Carson relays his thoughts about negativity getting the best of him: “everyone loves feeling like they have control over their own life, their own decisions, or their overall destiny, but sometimes outside voices scream so loud at you that they shake you up and make you adjust your path.” “Who’s In Control” thus acts as the band’s acknowledgment of that fear.

Set It Off is composed of singer/lyricist Cody Carson, guitarist Zach DeWall, and drummer Maxx Danziger. Drawing inspiration from a diverse swath of influences like Anderson Paak. and Michael Jackson, the genre-bending trio has never been your standard Emo band, Pop group, or even Pop-Punk band. They are all of those things and more, having developed a signature style that shakes Alternative to its core. Since their 2008 inception in Florida, Set It Off has conquered one milestone after another; they have released four highly-acclaimed albums, received accolades from press like Billboard and Alternative Press, amassed a loyal following, and racked in 528 million plays for their Top 10 Spotify tracks alone. They have also transformed audiences into believers on tours with All Time Low, Simple Plan, Sleeping With Sirens, and more.
While the band’s debut album Cinematics embraced their moodier Rock side, later efforts have taken on an upbeat Pop twist that has culminated in a darker synergy of those styles in their last album Midnight. Their upcoming album Elsewhere is a transitional and forward-thinking release— one in which the individual members have surmounted their demons and resurrected as happier and more full of life than ever before. Set It Off recently embarked on their Welcome to Elsewhere U.S. Tour where they performed in front of die-hard fans who couldn’t wait to see them live again. Packed out shows and bright neon merch went flying off the table.
